Eleanor Stewart, Director

ELEANOR STEWART, vocalist , conductor, music educator, is a native of Kinston, North Carolina. She is a graduate of Hampton University where she received the Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education. Mrs. Stewart's teaching experiences include secondary, junior high school, and elementary vocal music. She is a retired vocal music teacher of Powell Elementary school, District of Columbia Public Schools where she directed the Powell School Chorus.

Mrs. Stewart was co-founder and co-director of the Region V Children's Chorus in the District of Columbia Public Schools. This choir performed at the 1984 World Exposition in New Orleans as well as several Eastern Division Music educator's National Conferences. In December of 1993, she was invited as guest conductor of the elementary chorus in the Children of the Gospel Concert that performed at the John F. Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. sponsored by the Washington Performing Arts Society.

In January of 1993, Mrs. Stewart founded the D.C. Boys Choir of the District of Columbia Public Schools and serves as its artistic director. Mrs. Stewart's work with children's choruses has earned her numerous opportunities to perform at conferences, festivals, universities, government agencies, schools, churches, and community organizations. She has conducted workshops and served as clinician for music educators at schools and conferences locally and nationally.

Mrs. Stewart received the National Council of Negro Women Mid-Atlantic Region 1997 Excellence in Teaching Award sponsored by Shell Oil, The Washington Post Grants in the Arts in 1998 and The Society, Inc. Washington, D.C. Chapter Award of Appreciation for exemplary service to youth In The Arts, April 6, 2002.

She is a member of Phi Delta Kappa, Chorus America, Music Educators National Conference, American Choral Directors Association, National Council of Negro Women, and the District of Columbia Music Educators Association. Mrs. Stewart performs with the Adkin High School Alumni Choir and the Hampton University Alumni Choir.



Norris Berry, Accompanist

NORRIS S. BERRY accompanist. is a graduate of Howard University and Catholic University. He holds a Bachelors of Music Education and a Masters of Music in Piano Pedagogy. He has been teaching vocal music in DC Public Schools for 32 years.
Mr. Berry is also Director of Music at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Washington, DC. He is accompanist for the D.C. Boys Choir. Mr. Berry has performed with Carla Thomas, James Brown, Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes, Dexter Wan­sel and Sonny Rollins. He is a member of the American Federation for Musicians, The National Association for Music Education, the American Choral Directors and BMI.
